Pool Matters

John's action-packed update follows:

Dear poolies,

The Hatfields and McCoys had a riotous time last night with Geoff clawing his way to the top in one of the few 32 comps so far this year. All the action at www.hpdp.org.au.

Bye for now!

On Ya Phil

John provides his congratulations...

Dear devotees,

I'm pleased to announce that after a number of valiant attempts, Phil last night joined the hallowed ranks of comp winners on this years official ladder. Magnificent Sevens glory awaits! As always, check out www.hpdp.org.au, (please? we needs the hits!)

He's back

John provides another feisty update:

Dear "Like I could give a rats arse about the pool comp" chums,

Sorry about the tardiness of the updates but there was a slight technical hitch in data sharing after the management takeover. Ben and Peter T have actually edged yours truly out of 5th into 7th place, congrats boys. As always the action and the progressive ladder can be viewed at www.hpdp.org.au.

Ciao for now,
JL

Regime change

Read on for John's insightful update:

Dear Pool Friends,

As a result of regime change, a large contingent of mercenaries were seconded to do battle at the comp on Wednesday. This resulted in the third 32 comp of the year, ending well after closing. There has been some shuffling of the leader board (always a good sign) and congratulations Dan on his third win of the season (must be rigged?!?). And note the *new improved* $130 prize money. Check it at www.hpdp.org.au.

Yours in Deep Brown,
JL

NPC Concludes - Ex President Behind Bloodless Coup d'Comp

John provides a wrap up of the NPC:

Dear pool friends,

Peter T (building on his current most improved status) rocketed to the top of this years NPC final last night. So well planned was his ground campaign and exit strategy that he was declared cup winner before the completion of round three. However, the sweetness of his victory was slightly soured when he was denied the opportunity to join the hallowed ranks of this years pool comp winners by yours truly in the same round. Dan, the sentimental favourite, was unable to secure his position in round two, opening the way for Pete's shock n awful performance. The plucky little freedom fighter Henare, despite having missed the first week of the campaign, secured fourth position in the cup ranking. Well done chaps. Keep your eyes on the emails for an announcement on the inaugural Magnificent Sevens Invitational coming soon to a licensed premises near you. Catch a glimpse of the cup ceremony at www.hpdp.org.au.

Yours,
JL

There are also photos of the award ceremony, that you can view, download and comment on.

Round two goes off like a bunger

Outrageous claims from John in this update of round two the NPC:

Dear pool friends,

What a difference a week makes! A full card and some fierce competition as the Lords of the Deep Brown battle it out for supremacy. I'm giving the Most Improved award to Peter T for his valiant effort against buyback Garth in the final and the most Disappointing Attempt on the Black award to Henare. Dan remains the NPC points leader, but only just! See you all for the final confrontation next week. See it all now at www.hpdp.org.au.

NPC

John outlines the first week of the NPC:

Yes, pool lovers, an exciting start it was. Dan took out line honours with the chance that the cup may find its way into the NP blood line this year. Enjoy the ride vicariously at www.hpdp.org.au. Click on "Nick Power" after navigating to the pool stats.

The return of the ringmaster

John provides us with one of his now-almost-weekly inspirational messages:

Dear pool friends,

Ringmaster Garth has returned from his fact finding mission in the Eastern block. Hardly refreshed after stepping off the plane in the early hours of the morning he not only reclaimed his ringmaster crown but went on to secure his first win of the reconstituted comp. Bastard! Justin remains the points leader, but not by much. As you already know the Nick Power Cup commences next week. Ben, the current holder of the goose riding midget will bring the revered object itself next week to get your collective juices flowing. And finally, I'm sad to have to report that the HPDP slipped from its regular first place in the Trivia to a very disappointing second, however I'm sure it's only a glitch. Don't forget to check the pool ladder at www.hpdp.org.au.

Yours,
JL

Pool Update + NPC

John announces the Nick Power Cup with this update:

Dear Pool Friends,

Last night we saw the first 32 comp at the new HP. And I'm pleased to say that old warhorse Gozzo made his first appearance and took home the $100. Not bad for a bloke who hasn't picked up a stick for six months. A glance at www.hpdp.org.au will show Ross and our new recruit Jason equal first on the ladder. In response to Phil's email, week one of the Nick Power cup will be on Wednesday 3rd October and will be played over three consecutive Wednesdays. For those of you who don't know, the NPC involves scoring 10 points for each win, with a point for each of the winners balls sunk going to the loser of each game. At the end of week three, scores are tallied and the winners name engraved on the coveted Nick Power Cup. Prize money is as usual. First in first served.

Yours in deep blue,
JL

And Peter clarifies the situation on the scoring system for the NPC...

...And well done, John, re the NPC. However, the NPC scoring system is not as you say.

Basically, it's a point per ball sunk. Therefore, if you win a game it's 8 points. A win is always 8 points regardless of how it was won e.g. premature eblackulation by your opponent still means 8 points for the win even if you sunk no balls. The winner of the comp on the night scores 40 points (32 player comp = 5 games won) or 32 points (16-player = 4 games won).

The loser of any game scores a point per ball sunk. A loser can only ever make 7 points max even if they sunk the black as it was obviously a foul if they lost the game.

Hope that clarifies the situation.

Peter T
